The University of Salerno:

The University of Salerno currently represents one of the most relevant academic hubs in Italy. As the ideal heir to the Schola Medica Salernitana, the oldest health institution of the European Middle Ages, the University combines this historical continuity with a modern mission, firmly positioning itself among the top 400 universities in the world, in 15th place among Italian universities, and in 1st place among those in the Centre-South in international rankings.
The Excellence of the Campus Model
The University stands out for its Campus structure, divided into the Fisciano hub (home to 17 Departments) and Baronissi (dedicated to the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry). A constant connection between the two hubs is guaranteed by a free intercampus shuttle, making life easier for the 40,000 students enrolled in the 83 degree programmes.
The Campus is a “student-friendly” ecosystem that integrates:
- Residences and Services: Over 1,000 beds, banks, post offices, a police station, a health centre, and even a heliport.
- Cutting-edge catering: The central canteen in Fisciano, with 1,300 seats, can provide thousands of meals a day, while the Baronissi hub offers an efficient self-service facility.
- Culture and Social life: Open-space libraries, theatres, and areas enriched by works of contemporary artists make the campus a centre of life that vibrates beyond lesson hours.
Research, Sustainability and Orientation
The University is a model of sustainability: it independently produces 35% of its electricity needs through photovoltaic systems and cogeneration, with the ambitious goal of reaching 80%.
Support for students is guaranteed by specialised centres:
- CAOT: Manages orientation and the “Future freshmen on Campus” initiative, in addition to the famous UNISAOrienta event.
- University Language Centre: Oversees the teaching of 9 foreign languages and Italian for international students.
- Placement Office: Facilitates the professional integration of graduates in Italy and abroad.
- Internationalisation: The ERASMUS International Relations Office coordinates global mobility, inserting training into a strongly European context.
CUS Salerno and the Sports Vision: Road to EUG 2026
Sport is a fundamental pillar of university life. CUS Salerno (University Sports Centre), founded in 1985 and affiliated with CUSI, promotes physical well-being through the Unisa Sport Village. In this multifunctional complex, it is possible to practise fitness, swimming (in the university pool), football, basketball, tennis, and climbing.
The value of CUS Salerno is recognised at a national level:
- Sports Merit: Awarded the Silver Star by CONI in 2021.
- Major Events: After its key role in the 2019 Universiade in Naples, the CUS is today the organisational engine of the European Universities Games 2026.
This event will see Salerno welcome over 4,500 participants from 40 countries, consolidating the University’s role as a hub of excellence where sport becomes an instrument of active and conscious citizenship.
Technology Transfer and Third Mission
Through the Spin-off Incubator and the TTpoint, the University transforms scientific research into economic value, supporting innovative entrepreneurial projects born from the meeting between academia and business. With 35 years of constant commitment, the University of Salerno continues to protect freedom of research and promote merit, actively contributing to the construction of the European knowledge area.
