Medal haul on the final day of EUG Salerno 2026

On the final day of EUG Salerno 2026, European university titles were awarded in beach volleyball, tennis, football, badminton, 3×3 basketball, and handball.

In the women’s beach volleyball tournament, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics claimed the European title by defeating the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) 2-1 in the final. The Hungarian side came from behind, leveling the match before winning the decisive third set 15-11. Bronze went to the University of Latvia, which defeated the University of Toulouse (France) in the third-place playoff.

In the men’s competition, the University of Riga (Latvia) secured the gold medal with a commanding 2-0 victory over Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). Earlier, in the bronze medal match, the University of Latvia defeated Klagenfurt University (Austria) by the same 2-0 scoreline.

The badminton competition also concluded with all titles awarded. In the men’s singles, Simon Baron of the University of Bordeaux defeated Turkey’s Nurallah Sarac from Gazi University. In the women’s singles, Vilte Paulauskaite of Vytautas Magnus University claimed gold after overcoming Scotland’s Rachel Sugden from the University of Strathclyde.

France dominated the men’s doubles, where the Hoareau-Mammeri pairing from the University of Strasbourg defeated their compatriots from the University of Bordeaux 2-0. In the women’s doubles, the Askar-Ocakoglu duo from Gazi University won the gold medal, while Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania) took silver. France also triumphed in the mixed doubles, with Strasbourg completing a double by once again defeating the University of Bordeaux in the final.

Top-level European university handball was on display at the Palumbo Sports Hall. In the women’s final, the Hungarian University of Sports Science defeated Rouen University (France) 37-28 to win the title.

The men’s tournament delivered one of the most thrilling matches of the Games. After an epic contest decided in a penalty shootout, the University of Suceava successfully defended the title it had won two years ago in Debrecen. The Romanian side prevailed 50-49 thanks to the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Razpan Ripa. University of Alicante (Spain) was left to rue a golden opportunity after missing the decisive penalty at the end of the second period of extra time with the score tied at 47-47. The bronze medal went to the University of Zagreb, which defeated the University of Oslo in the third-place match.

The tennis competition, held at the Salerno Municipal Tennis Courts, saw the German Sport University Cologne win the women’s team title by defeating the University of Montpellier 2-1 after a long and closely contested final.

In women’s football, the final at the Vittoria Stadium in Fisciano saw a convincing victory for the University of Girona (Spain) over the University of Zagreb (Croatia). The teams went into halftime level at 1-1, but Girona took control after the break thanks to a decisive second-half brace from Thais Dominguez. The bronze medal was won by the University of Split—host of the next European Universities Games—which defeated Rouen University in a penalty shootout.

In the men’s football final, Rzeszów University (Poland) defeated the University of Würzburg (Germany) on penalties after regular time and extra time had ended 3-3. It was a dramatic encounter, with Rzeszów surrendering two separate two-goal leads (2-0 and 3-1), while the Germans equalized in the 93rd minute before eventually falling in the shootout.

The final titles of EUG Salerno 2026 were awarded in 3×3 basketball. In the women’s final, Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania) was crowned European university champion after defeating the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). In the men’s competition, the University of Seville (Spain) claimed the title by overcoming Vienna University (Austria) in the championship game.
