The games conclude tomorrow with the closing ceremony in Piazza Del Sapere

Tomorrow, August 1, will mark the final day of competition at EUG Salerno 2026. A total of 15 gold medals will be awarded before the spectacular Closing Ceremony, scheduled to take place in Piazza del Sapere at the University of Salerno.

The ceremony is being coordinated by the University of Salerno’s Head of Ceremonial, Danilo Cunsolo, who is currently overseeing the final preparations.

“Tomorrow evening’s ceremony will serve as an ideal bridge between Piazza della Libertà in Salerno and Piazza del Sapere on our campus. We strongly wanted the closing act of the Games to take place within our University,” Cunsolo said, “because over the past two weeks it has truly been the beating heart of the event.”

The ceremony will begin at around 9:00 p.m., both to avoid the day’s high temperatures and to allow the many athletes competing until late afternoon to take part.

“One of the most meaningful moments of the Closing Ceremony,” Cunsolo continued, “will be the Parade of Athletes. Unlike the Opening Ceremony, the parade will not follow a predetermined order by delegation. The flags of the participating countries will enter first, followed by all the athletes together, regardless of nationality, as they make their way into Piazza del Sapere for one great celebration of sport, friendship and unity.”

The programme has already been fully defined.

“Immediately after the athletes’ entrance, there will be the official greetings, speeches by the authorities and the Organising Committee, followed by the traditional handover of the EUSA flag from the University of Salerno to the Organising Committee of the 2028 European Universities Games, which will be held in Split, Croatia. The Games that are now coming to an end,” Cunsolo concluded, “will remain an extraordinary experience, made possible by the commitment and passion of everyone involved.”
