Pala del Mauro plays host to the showcase of Avellino’s upcoming events

From July 17 to 24, the Pala Del Mauro in Avellino will host the Futsal tournament matches for EUG Salerno 2026.

The event’s guidelines were outlined in the presence of Nello Pizza, the Mayor of Avellino; Virgilio D’Antonio, the Rector of Unisa; Gianluca Basile, the Director General of the University of Salerno; Lorenzo Lentini, the President of CUS Salerno; and Professor Francesco Paolo Adorno, Unisa’s sports delegate. The presentation highlighted the strategic value of the event for the Irpinia region and the extraordinary opportunities for tourism growth that will follow.

“Furthermore,” added Nello Pizza, the Mayor of Avellino, “the EUG also represent an opportunity to renew and strengthen the deep, long-standing bond between Irpinia and the University of Salerno. We are proud to contribute to this major event, and at the same time, we are working in concert with the Rector to increasingly expand the university’s presence into Avellino.”

Indeed, work has been underway for some time to progressively upgrade the Irpinian capital’s role within Unisa’s impressive infrastructure.

“Much has been done,” reiterated the Rector, Virgilio D’Antonio, “but there is still much more we can add. We consider the municipality of Avellino and the entire province to be a valuable future hub for the development of our activities, and the opportunity provided by EUG Salerno 2026 confirms this.”

At the helm, managing the dual fronts of the University and the Games, is engineer Gianluca Basile, now Director General of Unisa and formerly the Extraordinary Commissioner for the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples: “Now, just as back then,” Basile said, “the Pala Del Mauro represents a cornerstone of the sporting organisation. Avellino, as well as the municipality of Montoro—which will host the football tournament matches at the Pertini stadium—immediately welcomed the invitation, proving themselves, as always, particularly receptive to the initiatives of the University of Salerno.”

Meanwhile, the final details of the complex organisational machinery are being fine-tuned.

“This is an event of extraordinary significance,” observed Lorenzo Lentini, President of CUS Salerno, “and the figures confirm it. A particularly demanding challenge awaits us but, as already demonstrated during Naples 2019, the university framework and the team composed of Unisa, CUS, and Adisurc will rise to the occasion.”

The strategic direction set by Unisa’s Rector, Virgilio D’Antonio, marks a new vocation for the University, focused on local regional growth and the internationalisation of its academic programmes.

“And EUG Salerno 2026,” added Francesco Paolo Adorno, sports delegate to Rector D’Antonio, “will allow the University of Salerno to boost its international appeal, confirming its status as one of the most attractive, organised, and vibrant universities. Sport has always played an important role in our offering,” he concluded, “and organising the EUG is a highly gratifying confirmation of this.”
