Salerno to Host EUSA Forum 2026

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) has officially unveiled details for the upcoming EUSA Forum 2026. Scheduled for July 19 in Salerno, Italy, the event will run alongside this summer’s highly anticipated European Universities Games Salerno 2026.

Centred around the core theme of “Empowering University Sport Grassroots & Innovation,” the forum functions as a hub for discussion and knowledge exchange. It aims to improve higher education sport across Europe by gathering together researchers, sports administrators, and primary stakeholders, whilst also extending a warm welcome to competing student-athletes, volunteers, and general attendees.

Rather than just focusing on performance, this year’s assembly zeroes in on the long-term health of the university environment.

The discussions will primarily highlight:

  • Adopting good governance across institutions.
  • Integrating fresh, modern sporting disciplines into the student curriculum.
  • Enhancing dual career support to help student-athletes balance academics and training.
  • Building comprehensive, modern safeguarding frameworks.

The afternoon will kick off with opening addresses, swiftly moving into a deep dive regarding value-driven sport and the principles of the European Sport Charter. This will be followed by “Insights from the Field: University sport at a glance,” a session that provides attendees with a complete overview of the current state of university sport in Europe.

The spotlight will then shift onto innovation and student-athlete welfare through a dedicated segment on the EU-co-funded DiscoverU (Discovering University Sport and Supporting Dual Career) project. This presentation will feature important insights from a collaborative network of project partners, including EUSA, national and regional sporting bodies, dual-career experts, and the host university.

Ethical responsibility stays at the heart of the event. A key session will connect theoretical ethics with tangible, real-world solutions by aligning institutional safety guidelines with the EU-co-funded ESSEPA (European Sport Safeguarding Education and Promotion Action) project, securing an inclusive and safe environment for all participants.

To wrap up the event, high-level figures from across the sports and education sectors will come together for an interactive Round Table Discussion, focusing on how to turn these policy ideas into implementable, practical strategies to improve the European and University dimension.
