Sitting in the stands: the sports venues taking centre stage at EUG 2026
From July 18 – August 1, the spotlight will shine on the Fisciano and Baronissi campuses and beyond. The most important university sporting event of the year, EUG 2026, is preparing to take over a network of top-tier, off-campus facilities across the entire region, welcoming around 4,000 participants, including student-athletes and officials.
With just a few days to go before the start of EUG 2026, the definitive venue map has been officially released. It spans facilities across the province of Salerno and all the way to Avellino: Baronissi, Fisciano, Sarno, Roccapiemonte, Nocera Inferiore, Mercato San Severino, Montoro, Bellizzi, Eboli, Pellezzano, Pontecagnano, as well as the PalaDelMauro, located in the province of Avellino, which will host the Futsal competitions.
The venue planning for the event follows a precise logistical strategy designed to maximise travel efficiency, reduce journey times, and guarantee athletes the best possible conditions for comfort and focus.
The event is primarily centred around the University of Salerno campuses. However, to accommodate all teams and meet the requirements of every sport, the organisation has extended its reach, incorporating historic sports halls and state-of-the-art facilities throughout the Salerno and Avellino areas.
The Heart of Cilento: Eboli
The municipality of Eboli represents the most geographically demanding journey from the halls of residence (39.2 km, taking approximately 32 minutes), but it offers two world-class venues:
- PalaSele: One of the largest and most versatile indoor arenas in the region. It will be the exclusive venue for Table Tennis, hosting an impressive setup of 14 tables in total (8 dedicated to official matches and 6 for warm-up and training sessions).
- Stadio Dirceu: A multi-purpose outdoor stadium equipped with excellent logistical amenities, chosen as the official stage for the Rugby 7s competition matches.
The Agro Nocerino-Sarnese Axis: Sarno and Nocera Inferiore
This area specialises in managing large crowds and athletic preparation, thanks to facilities located between 20 and 25 minutes away from the campuses:
- Pala Coscioni (Nocera Inferiore): A premier indoor sports hall destined to host the crucial and spectacular official Futsal competitions.
- Stadio Felice Squitieri (Sarno): An outdoor stadium that will host a significant portion of the official matches for the men’s Football competition.
- Pala Finamore & Pala Filanda (Sarno): Two indoor facilities entirely dedicated to training and technical preparation for the Basketball teams.
Mercato San Severino
Strategically located close to the campuses (between 5 and 15 minutes’ travel time), the municipality of Mercato San Severino has been designated as the central “headquarters” for training across several disciplines.
Three indoor gyms will be exclusively dedicated to Volleyball training:
- Centro Sportivo San Lorenzo (9.7 km, 13 mins)
- New Sport Hall (8.2 km, 10 mins)
- Palestra Comunale (5 km, 9 mins)
Other venues include:
- Stadio Margiotta: An outdoor pitch reserved for Rugby 7s training sessions.
- Stadio Superga: An outdoor facility dedicated to the preparation and warm-up of teams in the men’s Football category.
Montoro and Avellino
The involvement of the neighbouring province of Avellino provides venues with a rich sporting tradition:
- PalaDelMauro (Avellino): A historic indoor sports arena located 31 km from the residences (around 34 minutes), which will lend its court to official Futsal competitions.
- Palazzetto di Montoro: A multi-purpose indoor facility that will host training sessions for both Futsal and Handball.
- Stadio Sandro Pertini (Montoro): An outdoor stadium hosting a selection of official matches for the men’s Football competition.
Salerno and Surrounding Municipalities (Pontecagnano, Bellizzi, Pellezzano)
The facilities distributed across the municipalities of the inner urban ring ensure an excellent balance between technical capacity and short journey times.
Official Basketball competition matches will be spread across three major indoor courts in the province:
- PalaPontecagnano in Pontecagnano (24.1 km, 23 mins)
- PalaSilvestri in Salerno city (13.8 km, 18 mins)
- PalaBerlinguer in Bellizzi (32.2 km, 30 mins)
Additional Facilities:
- Salerno Municipal Courts: An outdoor venue featuring 6 courts for the competitive stages of the Tennis competition (13 km, 14 mins).
- PalaCapriglia (Pellezzano): An indoor venue located just 7 km from the central accommodation (a 10-minute journey), set to host official matches for two disciplines: Futsal and Handball.
- PalaPalumbo (Salerno): A strategic indoor arena that, like PalaCapriglia, will serve double duty by hosting official matches for both Futsal and Handball (13.4 km, 15 mins).
- Stadio Duca Enzo Fieschi Ravaschieri (Roccapiemonte): An outdoor stadium included in the official circuit for the men’s Football competitions (11.3 km, 15 mins).
