-30 Days: Meeting with Press Offices and the Presentation of UNISound, the Voice of the University

Exactly one month remains until the eighth edition of the EUG (European Universities Games), scheduled for July 18 to August 1 2026. Organised by the University of Salerno, the Fisciano Campus provided the perfect setting for the official pre-event meetings.

Meeting on June 19 with the Press Offices

On June 19, the organising staff met with representatives from the press offices of the 13 municipalities involved (12 across the provinces of Salerno and Avellino) to co-ordinate the coverage and reporting of the event. They will be tasked with documenting activities across the 30 sports facilities identified by EUSA.

They will bring us coverage of both the sports events held at the Fisciano Campus, which includes the 3×3 basketball venue at the UniSA Square in Baronissi, and those scheduled in facilities across the various municipalities in the network:

  • Province of Salerno: Salerno, Baronissi, Bellizzi, Eboli, Mercato San Severino, Nocera Inferiore, Pellezzano, Pontecagnano, Roccapiemonte, and Sarno.
  • Province of Avellino: Avellino and Montoro.

UNISound, the Voice of the University

Thanks to EUG Salerno 2026, Unisound Web Radio, the official radio station of the University of Salerno, has finally been revived. It will serve as the official voice of the event before resuming its regular broadcasting schedule under the direction of Professor Alfonso Amendola, the Rector’s Delegate for the University Web Radio and Television.

“Unisound must represent an important voice for the Campus and the entire region,” noted the Rector of the University of Salerno, Virgilio D’Antonio, with satisfaction. “The fact that this beacon of communication had remained dark for a long period was a minor blemish, which we now intend to overcome with enthusiasm. EUG Salerno 2026 undoubtedly represents a major opportunity to experiment and relaunch the voice of our university.”

“Unisound is starting up again after a long absence,” highlighted Professor Alfonso Amendola during the inaugural broadcast from the radio studios, “taking advantage of the opportunity provided by this immense sporting experience. We will rely on three core pillars: a strictly institutional and educational one, one linked to the student community and non-teaching staff, and one that will see open participation from the local community. We also dedicate this rediscovered space and renewed vigour to the unforgettable Francesco Colucci.”

Conference on the Organisational Details of the Event

The meeting was attended by Rector Virgilio D’Antonio, the Mayor of Salerno Vincenzo De Luca, Haris Pavletic (President of EUSA, the European University Sports Association), Lorenzo Lentini (President of CUS Salerno), Emilio Di Marzio (President of Adisurc), and Geppino Parente (President of the Province of Salerno).

“We cannot hide our pride and emotion,” Rector Virgilio D’Antonio recalled during his speech, “for this occasion, which represents a challenge for the University and its organising machinery, whom I thank. At the same time, it is our university that is challenging the local region. Salerno can aspire to be a European city if its university does so too. EUG Salerno 2026 is the largest event organised by an Italian university in recent years. It is not just a sporting event, but also a moment of academic unity.”

“We are looking at a major event,” clarified the Mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo De Luca, “the significance of which goes beyond sport. The region will host over 4,000 athletes from various European regions, and this cultural interaction must serve as a symbolic moment for the imperative of peace among peoples and the reclamation of international law over brute force. Everything that moves towards dialogue and cultural exchange helps us find a way for nations and individuals to coexist.”

“We had a big dream,” emphasised Lorenzo Lentini, President of CUS Salerno, “which was to bring a major event to the Salerno area following the Universiade. With the organisation of EUG Salerno 2026, we have finally reached this milestone, and we now have a duty to protect it with excellent organisation.”

Emilio Di Marzio, President of Adisurc, emphasised the sheer scale of the organising machinery involved in preparing for EUG Salerno 2026:

“For our students, a period of undeniable sacrifice lies ahead,” Di Marzio stated, “but it will be amply rewarded by the incredible event we are about to witness: a fantastic opportunity for sport, culture, and shared experiences among young people from all over Europe.”

“We are proud to be here,” declared Haris Pavletic, President of EUSA, “and to actively participate in this event organised by the University of Salerno. Over the last few days, we have been busy with a series of meetings and site visits. I am certain that, thanks to the commitment of everyone involved, the success of this great event is guaranteed. My thanks go to everyone who is helping to make all of this possible.”

“It is important to highlight,” stated Geppino Parente, President of the Province of Salerno, “the readiness of the provincial administrations to build synergies with the universities. This ensures that all these initiatives, which are incredibly vital for fostering participation, promoting sports disciplines, and educating young people, can ultimately support all local administrators.”
