The second week of the games has begun: football, badminton, handball, and tennis competitions

The second week of the 2026 European Universities Games has begun, with the start of the badminton, handball, and tennis competitions. On Sunday, 26 July, the football tournament also got underway, immediately bringing success for the University of Salerno.

In the men’s football tournament, the Salerno side opened its campaign with a 1–0 victory over the University of Cyprus. The decisive goal came in the 50th minute through Giuseppe De Angelis, earning the team its first three points of the group stage. This morning, the University of Salerno returned to the pitch to face Rouen University of France.

The women’s football team also enjoyed a positive start. Earlier today, the University of Salerno defeated Eindhoven University of Technology 3–1, getting their campaign off to the best possible start.

The men’s tennis team was also in action, taking on the University of Zagreb at the Mariscoli courts.

The men’s and women’s handball tournaments also began today, although the University of Salerno’s teams will make their debut tomorrow. The men’s team is scheduled to play its opening match at 7:00 p.m. at Pala Palumbo.

In badminton, the University of Salerno suffered a 5–0 defeat against the University of Strasbourg in the team competition this morning. The team will return to action today at 2:00 p.m. against Aalto University of Finland.
